MARVELLOUS TOYS
As producers of the Sidmouth Folk Festival Children’s Programme, we’ve teamed up with Sidmouth C of E Primary School and Sidmouth Toy and Model Museum to bring you ‘Marvellous Toys’, a collection of new songs written by pupils and inspired by local people’s memories of their favourite toys from their childhood.
Chugging Down The Track
Otter Class were inspired by the memories of Rob Mulford, who talked about how love of model railways engines, in particular, the Flying Scotsman.
Here’s what Rob says about his toy:
“Since I was young I have always had an interest in railways and steam engines. My friends and I used to watch the trains on the main line out of Kings Cross. At home we had a small model railway and my two older brothers and I had a model locomotive each to run on our model railway. My own model locomotive which I saved up to buy was a Black N2 tank engine 69550.
Later I was able to afford a model of The Flying Scotsman. This was a great model, in its original green paintwork and 4472 LNER numbering, and I was happy to have it particularly as I had travelled on the real train. Seeing the great steam locomotives in action has always been an enjoyable experience for me and I now have the opportunity to relive my childhood by operating the trains in my role as a volunteer at the Sidmouth Toy & Model Museum. There you can see the Flying Scotsman and many other engines travelling around the track reminding me of my childhood toys.
